Spontaneous Meeting

Got a call from Tommy Duke today around 11:00 letting me know he was going to be in town and wanted to get together and talk some church planting. Tommy is currently planting a church in Pittsburgh called Iron City Church. They will launch on the 16th of September. He is wise beyond his years. He and his father, Lamar Duke (who is assiting his son with the plant) were a huge encouragement to me. One of their lawn sign slogans they have been using to publicize their preview services as well as their launch is More Jesus Less Crap. A little edgy for some conservative guys, but it is turning some heads, bringing traffic to their websites and to church. Really love how they are pushing the envelope. They passed out bottled water in the parking lot to people tailgating at the Steelers preseason game on Saturday. This allowed them to get a ton of invite cards into the hands of thousands of people who need to hear about Jesus. I love how they are embracing the culture of the Steel City. Pittsburgh is a blue collar rough and tough town. One thing which was very encouraging to me is when Tommy prayed for me at the end of our meeting. This is only the second time this guy has meet with me and he is already pouring life and encouragement into me! Thanks TOMMY!
